125 Celebration

  • 2025

    Supporting members through major employment transitions, such as navigating changes introduced by the Employment Rights Act 2025.

  • 2020s

    Steered the UK printing sector through the economic turbulence of the Covid19 pandemic and supported post-pandemic recovery.

  • 2014

    Took over the management of the British Office Supplies & Services Federation (BOSS), broadening its supply chain representation into the broader office products sector.

  • 2014

    Expanded member support by forming specialist communities such as BPIF Cartons and BPIF Labels

  • 2010s

    The BPIF expanded its focus on environmental sustainability, providing members with services, tools and expert advice to support increased sustainable practices.

  • 2007

    The BPIF undergoes a massive modernization restructure to provide extensive sector-specific business support, legal, health & safety, and training services.

  • 2005

    Launched BPIF Training to provide comprehensive apprenticeship and vocational education to bridge industry skill gaps

  • 2001

    Re-structured as a limited company to offer a highly streamlined and modernised range of commercial business and training services.

  • 1990s

    Began expanding its suite of business support services, including specific divisions for training, health & safety, environmental compliance, and legal HR advice.

  • 1990s

    Shifted our focus to meet the increasing technological and environmental compliance needs of our members, spearheading industry wide HR, Health & Safety, and Environmental standardisations.

  • 1984

    The BPIF published its first ever Printing Outlook survey of trends in January 1984

  • 1974

    Officially adopted the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) name, you know and love today, to encompass a broader scope of our commercial, packaging, industrial and graphic communications sectors.

  • 1970

    Introduced a massive modernisation of the industry's wage structures, transitioning from traditional craft-based agreements to a national agreement governing minimum rates and conditions.

  • 1931

    Rebranded to the British Federation of Master Printers (BFMP) to reflect the expanding scope of the trade.

  • 1920

    Ratified the creation of a Technical Section to promote scientific methods, chemistry, and engineering standards in the printing and allied trades

  • 1919

    Established the National Joint Industrial Council (NJIC) to standardise wage agreements and working conditions between employers and printing trade unions.

  • 1904

    The BPIF's Costing Committee was established, helping standardise financial and pricing practices across the industry.

  • 1901–1903

    W. Hazell serves as the inaugural President of the BPIF, beginning a century long tradition of industry led, non executive boards.

  • 1901

    The Federation of Master Printers was established on 15 April 1901 to represent printing companies nationally.
