Richard started his career in Print Engineering at Crabtree Vickers in Otley in September 1978, building sheetfed presses for customers all over the World.

The photo below captured the eventful time when management decided to put all their apprentices on a motorcycle training course due to some unfortunate accidents in the previous year.

Richard moved on in 1989 and began specialising in ancillary equipment for presses and pressrooms. He notes that despite the years that have passed, most of the relationships he made during this time are as strong as ever!

In 2005, Richard cofounded CyanX Ltd as a truly independent company with the aim of providing the print industry with an amazing choice of quality pressroom products.

Since the beginning, CyanX has increased its product portfolio so much that it has moved premises twice to accommodate this impressive expansion.

Richard and the team have adapted to many changes and overcome difficult trading conditions to achieve an ever growing worldwide customer and supplier base.

As recently as July, Richard connected with his local MP at our Annual Print Industry Reception at the House of Lords as part of BPIF Members’ Day 2026.
